Sorry, this is a bit of a rant, but I just went into an interview for a job I would really like, but probably will have to decline even if it is offered due to the manager’s position on respecting the time of their employees. During the interview, they asked if I had any requests or concerns in regard to the schedule. I mentioned that I would like to have either one weekend day a week or every other weekend off, and that I would like my days off to be consecutive. My reasoning behind these requirements is that I have worked myself into mental breakdowns before due to not being able to spend time with loved ones (they only have weekends off) and not being able to relax on my days off when they aren’t consecutive. They immediately shot it down, saying that I would be at the bottom of the totem pole and they wouldn’t be able to guarantee anything. Now I would have been willing to negotiate a bit on these, say for instance the days are consecutive but not weekend days, or one weekend a month off instead of every other weekend, but the fact that they just automatically shut it down and weren’t willing to respect me just because I’m new sent up red flags for me. I feel that every employee should be respected, regardless of rank.
Anyway, I’m just frustrated because this is a job I was really invested in and even willing to take a pay cut for, but I can’t take it if they won’t respect my needs.
