So my husband and I moved from UAE to Montreal. For many reasons, one being that we had a baby last year, he is the only one working. So he tried to start working in constrution and found stupid guys offering him 18$/h and not paying him. Then he did UE and found a job as restaurant manager in a restaurant here. He speaks English but has limited French. Anyway he has more than 10 years experience in this industry, worked in many countries around the world so skills are not an issue. The guy tells him its 24-25 $/h with tips. He didnt ask much because hey we need money. I asked him did the guy tell him whats his basic salary he just said 140$ per day for managers. So I prompted him to clarify. So the guy is turning in circle saying well its 140$ for a day of 8 hours so if you divide it it's 17.50$/h. Of course my husband was not please but it's more than a year he hasnt worked and the last time he worked a full year was in 2018. Im not sure if this is gonna get lost but hoping maybe there is anyone from Montreal who can explain how is the job market or maybe just salary to expect for restaurant managers. I forgot to mention but they are only giving him 6 hours per day and all of a sudden the guy is like well this week youre on training blabla. Like wtf what training? No staff gets training there and hes not in training, he got there less than a week ago and hes already training some staff on the job. I asked in a Facebook group and I was told managers here get 20-28/h. I left Canada 10 years ago and didnt think Id come back to sl*very wages. Im being sarcastic but would appreciate some tips to have a point of reference. TIA
