My girlfriend works at Target and tonight she had a nice interaction with a customer (which doesn’t surprise me she is very personable and helpful on the job) and she gave her a $10 tip. My girlfriend responded by saying she didn’t think she could accept the tip to which the customer responded “too late I’m already gone”. My girlfriend told her supervisor about the interaction and was told to put the money in the register and leave it there. The money is not hers and she can’t take it home. This sounds absolutely ridiculous to me and she is pretty upset over it. We have a year and a half old and no family around to help so every little bit counts. What is the legality of her supervisors actions? If they can do this it’s pretty messed up. I would appreciate any advice on how we can respond to this situation.
