We were notified last week that management has decided that we will be returning to the office on April the 4th. Some fun information about that decision:
- In an internal poll, 80% of employees voted to never return
- We've been working from home for more than 2 years, and productivity is up.
- Randomly some departments are classified as Work from Work, some are Hybrid, and select few have been given permission to work remotely permanently. Three guesses who is in the latter category.
For me personally, my office will be downtown, roughly 26 miles from my house. Company does not pay for parking, and when I checked lot prices downtown… surprise! Inflation hit those as well. Closest lot to work now costs $132 a month.
I added up all my expenses and realized I will be out of pocket $500 a month from gas, lunch downtown, parking fees, etc. My check after expenses (401k, SS, taxes, insurance, etc) is 1350 every two weeks.
I sent my manager and my director an email the same day we were told we needed to return telling them I can't afford it. I have a wife in school, a kiddo about to start college, a mortgage… You know normal living expenses?
Got a reply end of last week, tough luck. Been job hunting all weekend. So tired of this shit.
