Rude Awakening Today

Long story short, I work at a highly acclaimed private school in my area. I have my MA, 4 years experience at the school, proven myself capable as both a teacher and a leader. I successfully coordinated and administered the AP exams this year, and I am certified by the state to teach. My BA is in Adolescence Education. I have networked with both colleagues and teachers for those 4 years, and bent over backwards for everyone there.

A teacher in the subject I'm certified in was retiring and wanted me to fill his full time position, encouraging me to apply and speaking highly of my skills in the classroom to the department heads. I have wanted to teach since I was in the 8th grade. I'm 30 years old, so not young and inexperienced at all. I have my MA when many of the teachers only have their Bachelor's. Even the listing says “Master's in the field preferred.” And I'm a fucking awesome teacher when I am in the classroom. I have given them my everything. I had a stellar interview I felt great about.

I was told today they gave the position to someone else on the outside. Why? They have “more experience.” I'm heartbroken. But the rude awakening is an important lesson to learn. Loyalty means nothing. I'm not looking for advice but I just needed to get that out there.
