I started working as a bakery clerk in a chain grocery store about 2 weeks. Since I started working there I got burned by the walk in oven and had boxes fall on me. The oven door when opened will not stay open it will just shut immediately on you unless you put your foot on the door(doing this burns the bottom of my shoes) I have to extend my leg out just to put carts of cookies in the oven. Im literally balancing on one foot while trying to put stuff in the oven. I wasn't fast enough with my foot one day and the door shut on my elbow. Hurt like hell. Our freezer carts are stacked 6+ feet with unsecured boxes. Every time I have to get something out of the freezer shits falling on the ground and on me. There's pallets in the backroom are often stacked on top of each other or high on shelves 15+ feet in the air with no wrapping to secure the boxes. I had enough one night after getting hit with a box so I went to talk to my manager. As soon as I said I have safety concerns. He got very defensive. I told him my concerns. He's response was oh well that's how grocery stores are. The company doesn't care about the safety of employees just about making money. Osha comes in all the time and they don't care about the violations. Today I decided to call OSHA 1800 number to figure out what to do. I was transferred to the regional office. The lady didn't even give me a chance to speak. She just started yelling at me for “calling” that number. I don't even know what to do at this point. Company doesn't care and it seems like OSHA doesn't either.
