I am the director of project management for a creative agency in California. We are a very large agency with over 500 employees. My job is very demanding and just like most organizations right now we are very short staffed. I consistently work a 50-60 hour work weeks and many times my projects require me to work Saturdays and Sundays. Typically if this occurs I am able to take what’s are referred to as “reset days” meaning I take off a day during the week to make up for days worked on the weekend. However I was called into a C suite individuals office yesterday (HR was not present) and she informed me they would no longer honor reset days and should my project require me to work on the weekends I would not be given that time back. She said that as a salaried employee I am expected to sometimes work weekends. I just finished a project where I worked 18 days straight with no day off. Last year I worked a project 30 days straight with no day off. Clearly this is not something I am ok with. Can anyone tell me what my rights are as an salaried employee in reference to working over the 40 hour work week?
