I got an optimistic post for you all!
I’m a retail salesman that works in cellular. About a year and a half ago I started working at a Boost Mobile and worked my way up the ranks, eventually “capping out” as a store manager.
I went from hourly to salary and they paid me 32K a year salary. In my head as a young 24-year old was HOLY CRAP I’m making $16/hr! I took it right away
I was salary for about 9 months and I realized the mistake I made… 40 hour weeks turned into 50 hour weeks, then turned into me having duties outside my role, meanwhile I’m raking in record breaking sales as a Store Manager (not a rep). My monthly commission checks were hitting over $3K a month some months. In 2021 I made $43,000 dollars during my transition from rep to Manager.
My mental health was deteriorating and I went from loving my job to despising it. Eventually I had enough and went job searching at other wireless stores with other companies.
I landed a job with AT&T and they gave me a $1 raise from my salary rate ($17/hr) plus commission. Best decision OF MY CAREER!
I always thought Boost was looking out for me but they weren’t. Boss got LIVID I was trying to leave and threatened a lawyer on me because of non compete contact…
SCREW THEM! I got my new job, I have a work life balance, I’m paid well, and most importantly I’m HAPPY! I hope my old boss is picking up the work I did. He took me for granted. Don’t let a company dictate your life.
