First time posting here. I started my first engineering job at a steel mill as a process engineer. The position I applied for said my hours will be 9-5 M-W. I started my first month on that schedule and it consisted of learning how things functioned in my department. After a while they wanted me to learn how to operate two industrial-size machines and an overhead crane. Which makes sense since I got hired to improve in the department I got placed in. After training, I got thrown into a midnight shift that consist of 6-6 on weekends and weekdays. (Very sporadic schedule that will give me days off on the weekdays and sometimes on the weekends.) I was thrown in the position because one of the operators got fired. I wasn’t too happy about this since this wasn’t exactly what I applied for, but I stuck through it for 3 months. After the 3 months, I got back into a day shift but it was the same 6-6 hours. They gave me a 16-hour notice of this schedule change.. less than 24 hours to flip my sleep schedule from nights to days. I went into work the following day operating on machines with 3 hours of sleep. It was difficult but I got through the day.
Anyways my question is how legal is all this? What I applied for has not add up and I thought they’re laws for schedule flipping? Advice and comments needed. Thanks
