This is not my story, it's my brother's. But he gave me consent for me to share it. So, when you order from Doordash, you have the option to revise your tip before your order is complete. And dashers can see what you're tipping before they pick up your order so they can decide if picking up the order is worth it or not . My brother is in college, trying to make ends meet and save up some money before Law School. So he decided to try out working for Doordash. Multiple times, after my brother had dropped off an order, he was screwed over by people taking his tip away. They changed it to zero after the food had been delivered.
My brother is a rather hard headed fellow. And he would go right up to someone's door and confront them about this. 9/10 times it would go over well and he would get a tip. He wasn't aggressive, he would just calmly explain what a dick move it is to take away a dashers tip. I dont think many people expect to be confronted when they do shitty things like this and out of guilt, they will pay up when they are confronted.
This has to be a lot for anyone to take. Especially when not getting tipped and having to confront the cheapskates is the norm. But the straw that broke the camel's back came from this guy who was clearly VERY well off, who ordered about 120 dollars worth of seafood, promising my brother a 30 dollar tip. It was also snowing at the time, and my brother has a car with all wheel drive (in Texas), so he was probably one of the only dashers on the road. My brother hauled ass and got it to him within a short period of time. When my brother arrived at his house, as he was walking up the steps, the asshat changed my brothers tip to zero.
My brother was just about to leave the food on the doorstep when he had a weird feeling and checked his phone before leaving the food, confirming that he had in fact been screwed out of another tip.
My brother and this guy made eye contact, and calmly, my brother took the food back to his car, and started eating it.
While making eye contact with the guy who ordered it. Who knew revenger tasted like Crab Legs?
Mind you, this revenge story is one circumstance, as well as one of luck. My brother is 6'6 and 288 lbs. He is also white. The chances of him getting harmed as a result of this revenge are relatively low. Both my brother and I understand that not everyone can throw their arms up and say “fuck you” in the face of assholes, and it's not like he walked away consequence free but my brother lost his job but not his life. But I hope this asshole thinks twice before trying to screw someone else out of their hard earned tip.
