Unbelievable. I work for a mid sized corporations and manage several warehouses across the country. It’s clear that competitor wages have risen and for good reasons the managers of those warehouses asked for raises for themselves and their employees months ago. I was told by my boss that he was confident it would get approved but not until our year end review period (now). We even baked the raises into this years budget which has already been distributed to the managers. The increase was 13% for all which was 3% merit + 10% market adjustment. So that’s exactly what I inputted for every employee. It gets rejected by my boss’s boss (SVP) almost immediately. I asked why and what I should change and he said not everyone can have such a high market adjustment. He said that only top performers can get a full market adjustment. Imagine tieing a cost of living adjustment to only higher performing employees. That’s what merit is for. So I literally had to go name by name and cut cost of living increases down for the lower performers. Inexcusable. I bet they come back and say to lower more. For fucks sake internal wage increases should not be a negotiation.
