Hi, this is my first post so please bear with. I’m 24M in EU working for a U.S. engineering company. I’ve been working in a team of 8 engineers for approx 2.5 years and have thrived in the role. However my workload is very unbalanced and it’s affecting health.
I have been wanting to move on from my role for a few months now as I need time off sick due to mental health and stress in the summer. For every project another team member does, I would be given 3 projects to manage and design within the same time constraints. Difficult projects with more calculations and details also come my way so in reality, you could say I would have 4 projects for every 1 the other team members have. Some team members also don’t get new projects and just repeat issue projects with a few minor option changes.
I aired my thoughts about the workload and culture around the office, but this wasn’t really acknowledged and I was asked to take on the role of improving the culture and processes. The managers task of managing the office was passed on to myself in effect. So I handed in my notice since I had another role in different company with more money and more responsibility as a design coordinator lined up, rather than my current role as a design engineer.
As it’s an engineering company, there is many managers for each department (design, manufacturing, supply chain, etc) and an outside my department manager has heard I’m leaving. They have offered me the same money and a different role within R&D working with cnc machines and production flow. Essentially the role is a process engineer, focusing on efficiency and improving process in the business, which was one of my reasons for wanting to leave…. The processes.
My question is should I accept their offer as they have been offered other staff for the role but wanted me, focus on improving the issues many staff have within the company potentially… or should I follow through with my initial decision and move on to a new company? If you guys have any questions, or problems with my post please let me know and I’ll adjust. Thanks!
