She’s keeps hiring “stand-in’s”

My boss has a new hiring strategy that is meant to help us with turnover. She hires a bunch of full/part timers (8 to 10) but has no intention of putting them on the schedule. She keeps them on standby in case someone on staff quits. The full/part timers sign paperwork and are excited to start working (as promised during their interview/hiring process) but what they don't know is that they will never see their first day (except for orientation). Recently a few part timers that were hired started to call asking when they would be scheduled. My boss coached the staff on generic responses that we can give so they feel heard but we don't actually address the question at hand.

She also forgot to pay them for orientation day so we've been fielding calls from part timers all week.

One of the “stand in's” threatened to call HR on my boss last week. She must have panicked so they are now on the schedule after 4 months of no shifts.

This job is coming to an end when I go back to school in a few weeks. I can't wait!
