This has been on my mind for a while. I am trying build a design consultancy and like having interns (designers still in college who can contribute and also grow marketable skills)
So, I reached out to a student to see if he was interested in doing some freelance work. He said yes, but he had an internship for the fall at a much more established consultancy.
I had planned on $25-30/hr. I based this on what my previous employer paid thier interns (they had a very good intern program and I want to be similar or better).
Turns out that the consultancy he was working for was paying him $15/hr. I was shocked. This is $ .75¢ above minimum wage in this state. I was so angry. Why are designers taking such insane advantage of talented designers?
I would like to here thoughts from this sub.
