I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but I thought it important to get this information out there. Yesterday, Shopify laid off several teams (an entire department) with no notice or reason given. They were given a severance, but it was a literal situation of starting work one day and suddenly finding yourself locked out of systems. There were at least 50 people in the department.
I don't know if the secrecy (they have told no one else in the company other than higher leadership) has any other connotations but it feels shady. The department head is still around (of course).
At the moment I'm feeling very insecure in my position, so I think it's time to start looking for work elsewhere. Any suggestions for remote friendly work in Canada?
