Over the last few weeks a TON of my coworkers have gotten sick. Or “called out sick”. I work in a restaurant that wants to maintain the claim that they are “open 365 days a year no matter what”. I feel like all of these call outs are definitely a sign that just isn't possible but my employer keeps trying.
Over the last week I've been asked to cover 5 shifts – it won't put me into overtime, but is it really my job to cover? It feels like putting the responsibility on the employee, especially around the holidays, is really unethical.
Should employers cover shifts? Also, is it wrong that I NEVER want to take those shifts and am now claiming to be “sick” too?
