So I recently started working for a new company. I took unpaid leave from my previous place to go through probation and its been a week since I’ve been made permanent.
When I started with my previous employer, I told him I never leave people in the lurch and that I would give him early notice and do a handover (I’ve always done a smooth handover in all my previous jobs).
However I feel differently with this one and I have multiple reasons. I was constantly underpaid. My boss repeatedly told me I was underpaid and he appreciates my skills but never paid me what I deserve. I had to make do with commissions which had recently dried up. He also cheated me out of a lot of commissions which when I brought to his attention – he changed the rules. He was extremely lazy, racist and always blaming other people for a slow business. He was also extremely rude at some times. He knew he was taking advantage of me and others in my team by paying us less.
Now these are all valid reasons to leave him in the lurch but are they also excuses? Isn’t the decent thing to do is do a handover? I’m organised and have left all documentation and assets where he can reach them so there won’t be things he can’t get to.
And I know if I tell him I got another job he will DEFINITELY not pay me for my time. I also do not want to listen to him speak that’s how annoying of a person he is! For the record he has gone AWOL on multiple employees, partners etc.
So do you think I should just F*** him over, tell him I can’t come in anymore and just leave it at that or do the decent thing even if it pains me and I really do NOT want to do it?
Ps: I work remotely.
