Long story short, yesterday I asked old manager to be a reference as it was becoming a toxic environment. New manager called me today and gave me 2 options
1. Hand in my resignation
Or 2. I will be fired
I told her I would refuse to resign, so she said she’ll pass it up the chain to get me fired.
I thought this was the right thing to do/say, I’m being forced out of a job I love, and I’m not going to give up my entitlements in this situation.
However, my mum who has always been very securely employed has said I should definitely resign, so that I can move forward with a clean slate/conscience and that I can tell potential employers I jumped ship on my own and wasn’t pushed.
I am hesitant to listen to her advice. This new manager has also started another fight with a manager of a sister store that is being escalated to higher management/HR quite rapidly and she’s only been in this location for 3 weeks. She has given me nothing but excellent feedback previously. This is almost completely out of the blue
Context: I am in Australia, working in retail on a permanent part time contract within the probationary period – ineligible for unfair dismissal but I have entitlements to payment in lieu of notice, leave payouts etc
