My sibling (D) currently works at a well known casual food restaurant. I worked there before the job I have currently as Concierge for a different company. I know the staff really well, I helped shape some of the rules and policies when it comes to needing days off/shifts covered.
My siblings and myself are/were band kids. We did marching and pep band. It was required for our program to attend the games for a grade in class.
D is now having an issue in which they are telling her even if it is a school event, if they cannot find coverage for a shift, they will be written up. This is a different policy in which I helped shape. In which if you can't find coverage, that's fine. However you have to inform the store 2 hours in advance by calling the store If you could not come in. Most of the time I (as supervisor) just took over the position or moved other associates around to cover the missing spot. I did my best to inform the other managers/supervisors that this was the best method and wouldn't stress the associates out. especially since most are high school age, and have lots of things to do.
As I said, I still know the staff very well. The GM and AGM are good friends of mine (we go for drinks often) and I'm wondering if I talk to one of them directly about the situation? Since it affects my sibling and I don't want them to be fired.
