I've been sick for going on over a week and a half, with a very physical job. Didn't ask for more time off because I was told they couldn't manage it. Another co-worker got sick and got the entire weekend off with a doctor's excuse.
Someone recently quit, and I've been running myself ragged without an opportunity to get better, so I used my off day to go to the doctor and told him what was happening. He tested for covid and then dx'ed me with two other things. Gave me shots and prescriptions, and a note that does not disclose what I have, but that I may return to work at the beginning of next month.
My place of work is asking for a more detailed copy. I told them what was not included in the note, told them the reason more info wasn't included was due to an attempt to not violate hipaa, and even said that we could honor the note if they are worried about me being contagious as opposed to the deal of me taking two days off and then coming back on (they used me being possibly contagious as an excuse to get a more detailed note–they think I'm lying–and I think it's backfiring since they are leaving themselves open to me taking all the time off mentioned in the note).
I live in Alabama (US). Thoughts? Advice? Definitely going to look for a different job now. They are really fucking themselves, and hemorrhaging staff.
