Sketchy Information-Gathering

So, I just started with a company as a Driver. They handed me a bundle of paperwork to fill out for personal information; Social Insurance, Driver's Abstract, Background Check, Banking Info – nothing out of the ordinary… But they asked for more information… Previous home addresses, Contact information from previous landlords, Forms for my previous employers to fill out, Contact information from my family and close friends, Medical history / a physical fitness exam, Previous work history that I had already provided on my Resume but rewritten on an entirely different form, Several NDA forms, And all emailed to their HQ – that turns out to be in a whole other country. Too many red-flags and I quit immediately. This isn't some high-level government job and it definitely felt as though they were over-stepping their bounds in collecting my personal data. Am I just being paranoid – or is this…

So, I just started with a company as a Driver.
They handed me a bundle of paperwork to fill out for personal information; Social Insurance, Driver's Abstract, Background Check, Banking Info – nothing out of the ordinary…

But they asked for more information…
Previous home addresses,
Contact information from previous landlords,
Forms for my previous employers to fill out,
Contact information from my family and close friends,
Medical history / a physical fitness exam,
Previous work history that I had already provided on my Resume but rewritten on an entirely different form,
Several NDA forms,
And all emailed to their HQ – that turns out to be in a whole other country.

Too many red-flags and I quit immediately. This isn't some high-level government job and it definitely felt as though they were over-stepping their bounds in collecting my personal data.
Am I just being paranoid – or is this considered perfectly normal?
