Hey guys,
I just started a new job as an engineer and an electric company. Recently I was at a job site discussing with some of the electricians when one (white male, mid 40s) used the N word, hard R right in front of me. It was in a joking context, “oh that paint is [N word] black”. The “joke” made me very uncomfortable and just surprised the shit out of me that someone still thinks that is okay.
I want to talk to my boss or HR about this but it’s my first week and I’m scared of being seen as the new guy who “can’t take a joke” or trying to change a whole lot of things. For context there were two other people involved and if he got a talking to, it would be obvious who had a problem with him. I feel like I need to talk to someone about this because it’s not a work culture that I am okay with but this job is also a great opportunity for me and I don’t want to squander it.
