So I might have started something at my job!

Warning everyone now that I'm on mobile so formatting will be bad. So today my company held a roundtable with ~100+ people in zoom. Just a way for us to communicate our wants and needs to our leadership. I work for a growing company, but a company that seems to skimp on pay. I brought up pay and more specifically the company not posting salary ranges for positions that are available in the company. I said this was a deterrent for applying and could lead to a waste of time as no one wants to apply for a job that pays them less than what they make now.

After getting a generic unsatisfactory answer I pushed back for a more concrete answer as I wanted to make sure we were clear. Anyways this resulted in her saying she will check with HR and get back to me. I don't plan on letting this go and I will communicate with my team her answer.

This and an offhanded comment in my teams slack channel has now lead to my entire team posting their current hourly rate for all to see in our slack. This is a team of around 20-25 people and they are now finding out that there is a considerable pay discrepancy between some of us, more than $5 an hour in some cases. Some people have more recently received merit increases and promotions to tier 2 position in company and still make less than some of the new hires. We will see where this takes me..

My point in this is that every conversation we have that normalizes pay discussion only helps us, as the workers, out. We need to keep fighting for our worth! Keep doing your part everyone!!
