TL;DR: Job didn't match my personality so I quit
Just to give you a bit of an idea as to what the place was like think The Office without Michael Scott as the manager but Jim when he's married to Pam, he doesn't do a lot of funny pranks anymore but he has his moments and focuses on work but has the career mindset of Dwight who wants to move up the corporate ladder. So he will do anything his boss tells him. The place is what you would describe as like a family here, or a little culty because everyone seems to love what they do a little too much.
The hours were good 9-5 Mon-Fri the job was sales and the pay was OK, the colleagues were great. But it was the role itself, they advertised it as not call centre work but every aspect of the role was. Inbound calls, outbound calls, live chat and in person on occasion. Customers for the most part weren't abusive but as I'm introverted and there's a lot of personal stuff I need to get sorted out but haven't because I'm putting all my energy into the job to get the bonus I'm burnt out.
I was fixing other people's orders I was taking on more work that I wasn't being paid for and they knew I'd take the extra work because I'm like that thinking it'll show when it comes to any form of pay review which we had. A generic increase for matching inflation which everyone received, so I did the extra work for nothing. I handed my notice in yesterday after thinking about it and I've only ever been allowed to do this type of role for my career after dropping out of college.
They asked what they would change to keep me there and I told them, more money and flexible working between the office and home. As you'd expect they thought that was unrealistic.
So what do I do now?
Learn to drive
Spend more time with my dog
Quit the drinking
Hit the gym
Drop a few people who encourage the drinking
Go to AA
Figure out what I would want to work as for the next 30 years.
I have the time I just have to focus on these things and I will change
If anyone does have any suggestions as to what I could do for a job let me know as you might have a super niche job I've never heard of 🙂
