So much for working at a nice lil mom and pop shop.

I need to vent. So I work retail for a mom and pop. I have been there since May so not even a full year yet. For context, the current staff includes my boss, her husband, myself, and one other co-worker. There are only 4 of us and business has been booming for these two. I absolutely loved working for them at first but the last month or my boss decided it was “necessary” to have an “employee handbook” saying it will be helpful for new hires. (She hasnt been looking) So the past couple days my boss has been all huffy with me because I took last weekend off because my fiancee won tickets to see my fave band live and the store was busy. Spoiler alert: They were fine, nobody died. Two days ago we sat down for a meeting and she gives us the same ol blahblahblah…

Two days ago we sat down for a meeting and she gives us the same ol blahblahblah about how we are not permitted to talk amongst ourselves if there are customers in the store, etc. (I'm talking like not even small talk about the weather.) My coworker and I agree for the 8465th time and then she passes out these papers.

First one is drug and alcohol policy, second is dress code, and the third was our new time off request policy totally aimed at me because my coworker never asks for time off.

“No time off requests will be approved for the months of July and August or the time between Thanksgiving and New Years Eve. Time off requests for Holiday weekends must be submitted 2 months prior to the weekend.
Blahblahblah…
Sign here stating you understand that your time off request may not be approved”

Lmao so I immediately end of my shift I am like “okay well I need June 11th and June 27th off.” (Wedding, Birthday) And shes like “hmmm well I dont know June 11th is a Saturday it MIGHT work out if we get new staff by then… but you're lucky your birthday falls on your regular day off.” I said “Welp, good thing it's for June and not July or August!” snarkily, and went home.

I am fuming over the fact that she thinks her fucking retail store is a bigger priority to me than anything else in my life. Its fucking not but I'm in financial hardship right now so I can't just say fuck it and leave.

I can't tell you how badly I want to put my two weeks notice on the time off request form and hand it to her when I come in today.

Thanks for letting me vent, reddit.
