so my company explicitly tells us not to protest…is that legal? is it weird?

So I've worked at this company for most of a year…I'm located in a very liberal city in a pretty conservative state. Over the past few years, we've (rightly so) had many protests downtown, often drawing thousands of people. Since I've started, there's sadly now been multiple events that have prompted these protests, and today is absolutely of no exception. So this morning, shortly after the SC decision went out, we received the same email that's been sent a few times now….the email is from our head of safety on site, and appears to be sent only to our site even though our company has sites all around the world. Anyway, this guy sends out an email warning of potential protests and tips for how to avoid them. Stated on the email, “Do not participate in any protests, even if you agree with what they are protesting ” Not a suggestion, not a tip. Straight up Do not participate.

Yes I live in an at will employment state, so this is probably a stupid question…but could they theoretically fire me if I did go and protest while not on company time?
