I started a new job in recruiting in February after quitting my last job due to my commute. I was commuting over 50 miles one way every day and the afternoon commute and sitting in traffic for over an hour before making any progress in the drive was just way too much for the amount I was making. I interviewed at this new company and everything seemed great on paper. Hybrid work schedule, only need to be in office 8-10 days a month, I would need to commute about 30 minutes one way to an additional office in my region but only a few days a month, less work, etc. I am offered the job, with a slight pay cut, but the time and money saved commuting 5 days a week was worth it to me.
A little background about my specific position recruiting. I am only allowed to recruit off of applications that come in. I basically screen them and do their prehire. I work for an agency that places people in home care positions. I don’t cold call applicants or do any kind of headhunting. I also have strict state guidelines to follow for prehire, including medical testing.
Cut to my first day of work and I’m told they are trialing a hybrid position, combining the jobs of two people into my job. Was never mentioned to me in the interview or onboarding process. The amount I’m being compensated really doesn’t sit well with me for doing two people’s jobs and I was prepared for less work and not more. Strike 1.
Strike two was finding out that I’m the least paid on the team despite doing the job of two people. I was planning on holding out until my probation was over to ask for more money for doing two jobs.
Final strike happened over the last few days. Thursday I was pulled into a meeting to discuss my numbers. Anyone who has recruited before knows that you can only fill positions if the applicants are interested, and that people will disappoint you all the time. My applicant rate has been low recently and I have had a lot of people interview, do prehire, and not show on day one. My supervisor chewed me out regarding my latest numbers equating it to be my fault that people aren’t showing up on day one. She dissected every single note I’ve left, picked apart my process, the whole nine. Keep in mind that I’ve worked here since February, received two days of training in both facets of my hybrid position, and have had to figure it out on my own despite repeated attempts to ask for additional training and recruiting resources. Today I get an email requesting for a meeting with IT to install Time Doctor on my computer. It is a work computer, so they can install whatever they want, but it was so out of the blue. I did a little digging and asked my fellow recruiting team members if they received the email as well and all of them were pretty confused and said no. Did the same with the members of my other team of peers in the other department I belong to. As far as I know no one else received the time monitoring email.
I believe my boss has it out for me because I do not put up with certain things she expects from the teams. I don’t take calls after hours, I don’t go into the office more than required ( and I would if she would allow me to go into my local office and not the one 30 minutes away), and I stood up for myself during the most recent meeting we had. So now I’m being punished with key logging software.
I’m reviewing my company handbook to see if I have any recourse with the keylogger but I’m sure I don’t, so the job search continues. Yay capitalism. /s
