Some days ago I went into a meeting with company workers and CEO on my home office job, here’s the outcome.

Hi, first of all, I'm web developer of a big company in south america, I've worked more than 2 years for that company, and I have more jobs that this company doesnt know it. I managed to go to the meeting and I watched the CEO give a lecture, showing that the company is growing fast, showing the new products and what they are doing to improve sales etc etc.. One thing that catch my mind is when he said “If you're planning to left the company just to get a salary and a + burguer, you can get out now because we are building career.” He also said: “The company is growing and we should continue at path and improve more, there's thousands of projects that need a leader and we're looking this, so think about it what it will be after 10 years” everyone applauded etc.. and I…

One thing that catch my mind is when he said “If you're planning to left the company just to get a salary and a + burguer, you can get out now because we are building career.”

He also said: “The company is growing and we should continue at path and improve more, there's thousands of projects that need a leader and we're looking this, so think about it what it will be after 10 years”

everyone applauded etc.. and I was kinda skeptical but now I understand better..

1). There's no contract that specifically says “You will be promoted in x years, and you will become senior in 10 years”

He also told that people that move to the city and stay closer to the company has even more opportunity, indirectly saying that people that work home office should work “company office”

2) Well, I started to work home office because I love being at home with my family, I can also drink anything I want while being focused on programming, I really hate company office work.

3) If you read the first statement, you will tie the facts.. I Think the CEO said that because he want people to work at the company office, being less available to get other jobs with higher salaries.

4). I'm not complaining about the company or the culture of work, actually is the company that I most like to work because there's less bureaucracy etc…

The big plus here, is that I work at three different companies at same time, all by contract and each one don't know that obviously, I get roughly +- 6000 usd, and i've been doing this for several years, so I'm very close to get my retirement, working 10 years like that is worth to 30 years working at one job.

So my opinion is: Salary matters specially when you're looking to reduce the time until you can retire, and while other people are very happy, is always good to being skeptical and think by yourself.

For example if you work and you get a proposal that you will earn 25% more, that means in 12 months you will get 4 months more time of work worth, than if you stayed at old job. Even if you work for that salary for 10 years,it would be more worth it than staying at older job with a promise of getting a better salary later, because even if you get a higher salary after 10 years, comparing between the two jobs , you would still earn more at the new job.

migrating from home office to “company office” def would be a point to look for another job for me.

Plus.. there's another thing that the CEO said, he told that people at sales department are the best because the company only aims to the best of the best, with eager to work, and improve always even if its already good.

this seems “very capitalist” in a manner that there's no thing such as care for mental health, for example, working at weekends are praised, and I can give one example that happened in the company: A director of the company that directly managed the developer's team, worked so much at the company that he got burnout, with serious health issues, his voice was weak, his strength was none, and plus he got covid. He is not working at the company anymore.

What you guys think of it ?
