Rant incoming. New to the sub and just wanted to express my thoughts and experience.
I just graduated with my BA. Even though i've been looking for work even months before i finished school, still no luck. Everything in my field needs either a grad degree, is only hiring for positions that have years of experience, or require a car and pay absolute shit. I'm not sure i even want to work in my degree anymore, but i won't be able to get healthcare or make enough to afford my own place on regular retail/minimum wage jobs. Everything paying more is either the same situation or a field im not qualified to work. The worst part is, the last month since i've finished all of my classes, i've felt the most like myself in a long time. I'm actually slowly picking up hobbies again instead of spending all of my energy on work/school work.
I think I could actually fix my burnout completely if i also got my own place, but for that i need a job, and not only do we know how well that's going, but i also know that as soon as i get a job all the progress i made will be in the negatives…. if i could just afford my own place, i'd be able to start on that book i've been planning since I have been able to get back into creative writing now, but i don't think i'll ever be able to continue this motivation with a full-time job… we all need and deserve universal basic income.
Think about how much new art, media, and innovations we would have if people weren't all burned out from capitalism. So many people i know want to work, but the grind makes them hate their jobs. Someone I met the other day mentioned how much they would love to do simple, repetitive work, and would be good at it, but it all pays shit because it's not seen as “skilled” labour. Something has got to give, and it needs to happen soon.
