I used to work for electric company since I was 19 years old. Loved it there, started as a kind of assistant and worked my way up step by step. After 10 years, I was in charge of pretty critical software and also developing it, since I got to study in university while working which was pretty nice. Company also supported my studies and paid me extra for it.
But that was pretty much the extra. I never received proper raise when climbing up that ladder, even I asked for it every year. I knew that people in similiar positions made 500€+/month more than me. I also had reached the top of the corporate ladder for “normal” workers, so I knew I had to resign if I wanted better pay.
Long story short, I applied for competitor and got an offer for 800€/month better salary and more benefits (100% remote). People in my former company were shocked that I quit, and my boss was visibly scared and shaking when I announced it. I pretty much told them how much more the competitor pays, and of course they now had money to match the new salary. I rejected their offer and left.
I have now been talking with my ex coworkers, and found out they all received 10-30% salary increase after I left, because my ex company got afraid of them leaving too. So yeah pretty much we all won when I decided to quit.
