I was hired at Namesco, my current IT job a few years ago and negotiated a better deal on the way in than others in my team at my level.. Well I have been paying for it in 1% pay rises every year ever since. Sat down with my boss and asked what I have to do to get a pay rise..I offered to become an expert in our firewall..or backup solution…get more certifications ( that I pay for as they expected me to pay for my own training!!! WTF!) and he said that I can't get any more and that if they were to hire again then they would not pay my salary…
So I could literally walk on water and it makes NO difference…
This also means that I don't have to try..I just do my job now… none of the expected “extras” like working extra hours or working outside of my job spec for me. it was actually liberating in some ways.
When I am at work, I work hard…but when I am not..I no longer pick up the phone …
Employers want more…show me the money
