Starting my journey to becoming self employed

So, I currently work part time in an opticians, and while I love what I do it just isn't what I want to do forever. I've always been artistic and for 6 years I've dreamed of making a career from my art. I'm planning on applying to university to do Illustration so that there's some structure to my development and so I can meet more people who share my passion (thankfully I love in a country where student loans are available, repayments don't start until you're earning significantly more than the equivalent of full time work at minimum wage, and the debt is wiped if not repaid after 30 years) In December, I will (hopefully) be hosting a table at a local makers market, I'm just waiting on confirmation that I will have a table. So, I currently work part time in an opticians, and while I love what I do it just isn't what I want to do forever. I've always been artistic and for 6 years I've dreamed of making a career from my art. I'm planning on applying to university to do Illustration so that there's some structure to my development and so I can meet more people who share my passion (thankfully I love in a country where student loans are available, repayments don't start until you're earning significantly more than the equivalent of full time work at minimum wage, and the debt is wiped if not repaid after 30 years)

In December, I will (hopefully) be hosting a table at a local makers market, I'm just waiting on confirmation that I will have a table. I'm making designs for stickers, creating original artworks, and getting pieces ready to have prints made. It's exciting and terrifying at the same time, but it's a step towards where I want to be, and any leftover product can be taken to the next makers market or placed for sale on etsy. I know its going to be a slow grind to get to where I want to be, but I'd rather be pursuing my passion and struggling a little financially than stuck working for someone else and having work relayed stress from a business I have no stake in.

All of this is to say, if you have a business idea that you want to follow, take the leap. It's scary, but it's possible, and the sooner you start, the sooner you will see results.
