Stepping Down to Step Up

I'm lower level management in my company and I just heard that once it gets through the union, the workers hierarchically below me are getting a pretty big raise (they're increasing the starting wage by $4/hr). I'm very happy for them, they work hard and deserve it. Many of them already make more money than me and with this pay increase, some could be making double what I make. I've decided if I don't see a similar raise at my review time, I'm going to step down from my position back into my old job and even thinking about it is such a weight off. No more forced, unpaid overtime, no more playing the corporate game, no more bringing my work home with me. I would still have to work overtime to make a significant difference in my financial situation, but at least it would be on my terms. We'll…

I've decided if I don't see a similar raise at my review time, I'm going to step down from my position back into my old job and even thinking about it is such a weight off.
