I’m losing a very hard worker that I’ve been lobbying a $3 raise for. It’s retail work, but he/she goes above and beyond. The job was is far more physical than we were all let to believe.
My boss asks where he’s going? For how much? Do they have benefits?
My response: it’s irrelevant.
Boss: what do you mean.
Me: do the math. People making under $23/ hr cannot afford insurance for $400 a month with a $7k deductible. Please stop acting like insurance/ 401ks are benefits to the employee. They are benefits to the employer for tax credits.
