Stop being hopeful; change jobs instead

My role was advertised ongoing but they offered it as a one year contract. When I rejected that, they changed it to 3 yrs, which I accepted as I needed a job. From my first meeting with the boss 3 mths in I started asking about whether, now that they knew me, would they change it to ongoing, as advertised. I was told executives are on 3 yr contracts. However, I’m not an executive and not on the leadership team. Anyway, 2 years later, after raising it repeatedly in every meeting with him, I just got another job- ongoing, on the leadership team, and 20k pay rise. Suddenly he sends me an email saying he wants to make me ongoing, paperwork to follow. But it’s too late.
