Stop the “be the best” narrative for work. Some of us work because we want to enjoy life outside or work

When I started working my latest job, I was told by family and friends alike something along the lines of “be the best at the office. Don't conform with mediocre, always aim higher than anybody.” I sort of get the attitude. You wanna inspire others to do well and let them know you believe in them. But I feel like most people don't even conceive that I work exclusively because I have to. All i want to get out of my hob is my wage. That's it. I dont aim to be the best employee, the most efficient, the one that stays the latest and arrives the earliest. Nah. Quite the opposite. My goal is to work the least and put the absolute minimum effort without risking being fired. That way, I can preserve my energy and my good mood to thrive outside work doing things that actually fulfill me.…

Is this just a me thing? Or do yall also get told to work the hardest and be the best, whe you just want to be there for the money.?
