There are a lot of posts calling for strikes, but people who are struggling to survive with what little pay they get can't always afford to not work, even for a single day (which wouldn't do much to hurt most companies, anyway).
Why aren't we talking more about slow-downs? Show up for work and turtle your way through your shift. Hourly workers get paid for how much time you are there, not for how many burgers you cook or phone calls you answer. Let the lines get long, let things get backed up, let the messes grow. Make like you're one of those DMV sloths in Zootopia.
Of course, like a traditional strike, this move requires solidarity with your coworkers. But slow-downs can be a really effective for the same reasons strikes are – while you're still getting paid.
Does anyone here have any experience participating in a slow-down? What worked? What didn't? Share your wisdom.
