Subway wanted me to work an unpaid trial

I went through two separate interviews for a crappy job at subway that pays slightly above minimum wage, was invited to a third interview which I accepted as my money was getting tight only to be told in the interview that it pays exactly minimum wage and that I would have to work a trial to be considered for the role, I accepted begrudgingly and asked about when he'd be in contact for my payment info, he said he wouldn't need it as it would be unpaid, I think my dumbfounded look caught his attention as he said “if that's a problem I need to know right now” obviously that was a problem and unsurprisingly I didn't get the job. Instead I will be using the time I would have had to spend working for free looking elsewhere for another job. Never again subway.
