Hello!
I've seen a lot of people annoyed with the fact that most job openings do not post what they pay.
You can use this method to easily find out average pay for your position. Even Human Resources departments use it to benchmark their openings. (Note: This only works in the U.S)
- https://www.bls.gov/ooh/a-z-index.htm – Go to this link and you will see a page that lists all job positions in the U.S.
- Find and click the position you want to learn about. In this example I will look up Customer Service Representatives. The page will look like this
- we can see that 2020 median pay is $17.23 for 2020. This is a good start, but we want to Filter it by the state because where you live may drastically change the pay. So click the “State & Area Data” map.
- You will now see a page like this. You can now get a full percentile breakdown of hourly and salary wage, get heat maps of where customer service representatives get paid the most and what industries pay the most. If we don't take cost of living into account I would get paid the most if I was a customer service representative with the federal government (post office) in the following states below
Hope this guide helps! I know it's aggravating to see companies not give a salary range, but using this guide will help you get a good idea of what the job SHOULD be paying.
