Deleting later, but I work a manufacturing plant, and last week I had some pain that was preventing me from doing my job efficiently. Each department has a supervisor and leads who work under them. Well, I've been covering a position for another department for a while, but still technically have the same supervisor from my original department.
So, I let the lead that is over my current area, know that I was going to the infirmary to get my pain checked out. Which is what we're supposed to do. Their supervisor came and checked on me, which they usually do.
After I got back, I was told to go talk to my original supervisor. He asked me what happened. I told him. And he told me that I had to let him know if I'm going to the infirmary, I have to let him know. I didn't, because I was always told that I had to only let the lead know. Also, I was in too much pain to walk all the way to his office before going to the infirmary.
Later, he told me that doing that is considered job abandonment when I don't let him, specifically him, know that I'm going to the infirmary.
I'm just wanting to know if this is actually true? Because, I thought you had to leave your actual job site for it to be job abandonment.
