WHERE TO BEGIN. let’s see, I’m in healthcare working terrible hours for the past year (mid shift, get off later than 8pm and work every weekend and I have received multiple opportunities to move to better shifts because I hate my current one however I’ve been DENIED because I had been too new. Well they hired 2 people who quit not long after being hired for the shifts I wanted and I expressed (once more) that I was still interested.
After august of 2022 they said they would move me as soon as they found my coverage. So it’s sept – I’m still working the shit shift but I accept that because I know they’re trying to find coverage.
WELL currently I’m sick (on my day off thankfully) and I get a message from my supervisor asking if I could possibly work my two days off each week of oct to “help out”. I honestly don’t want to – she’s even asking me to help out when I’m due for PTO which means I probably won’t get my PTO request approved. I’m burned out, the ER is insane and all the people I work with are lazy so I pick up ALLLLL the slack.
Now for the question – how do I proceed? I know if I tell her I can’t I may lose the opportunity to move to a better shift where I don’t work weekends any longer. But I know if I pick up one or two extra days I’m likely to make a mistake and put my license and job in danger – it’s that crazy busy at work.
Any advice is appreciated.
