Got suspended yesterday pending HR review due to supervisor seeing that I allowed myself to not be available to receive a new call for ten whole minutes. This is a job where I will get kicked out of the system if I am not chained to the computer for two minutes or longer. On my actual job performance, they cannot criticize me, only my taking breaks from calls. I have to do this, otherwise I get back-to-back calls and can’t even take a drink between them for hours straight sometimes. I’ve explained this to several supervisors to no avail. So I get called into a video meeting with two supervisors where they make me watch the recorded call (they record the remote workers’ desktops the entire shifts) and another they wanted to shame me over. I refused to take the bait. I said their system is not setup to allow for basic human functioning and told them that there is a wealth of research readily available online that details how toxic micromanagement is for companies and how if one works a desk job, they should sit 20 mins, stand for eight, and move around for at least two minutes in order to avoid dying sooner. I said I had a lot of research I could share, but it’s easy to find. Sup’s immediate reply – “clock out, you’re suspended.” Me: Okay clocks out Sup asks if I have anything else to add. Said no, hung up. Got hired that afternoon doing something I enjoy much more, and was onboarding or interviewing with two other employers within a couple hours.
