Overheard this morning that our company is looking for staff, and having a hard time. Apparently there's a shortage! And people are apparently being head-hunted and scalped from us. So weird!
They're talking in my earshot, so I figured I'd throw out an off-hand “Maybe you gotta pay them more” and damn didn't that set off a rant from the CFO. About how it's not sustainable, and all these companies paying people more now are going to collapse when they have to continue paying people more money when work dies down. Can't have higher-paid employees in certain positions. Well, there goes my idea of asking for a raise for the essential work I do for this place.
Imagine paying people a goddamn living wage! The audacity of asking for it! (am in Australia, so the hunt for decent wages is now definitely international if anyone was wondering) I know for a fact their cash flow is trash. The un-sustainability is coming from the top, not from paying their employees a decent wage.
So, I'm on the lookout for a new job.
