In the interest of full disclosure:
I am well compensated for my services. I haven't lived paycheck-to-paycheck in years.
I have good(ish) benefits.
I get enough vacation time every year.
Most of the time, I even like my job.
But heres the problem.
Sometimes I go too long without taking time off.
Last week, I sat in my kitchen in my underwear, staring at my table, desperately trying to summon the willpower to get up out of that chair, get dressed, and drive 8 miles to work.
I looked at my calendar, and realized I haven't taken a vacation day since last November.
You're not being a hero.
You're not making yourself “more valuable”.
Youre burning out.
Take care of yourselves.
The company isn't going to do it for you.
