So I used to work at a small southern furniture store in the states. I started at the beginning of the pandemic around April of 2020. Well when I first started the job was I worked 3 days (thurs, fri, and sat) and I’d get paid 8 dollars an hour. During the interview the manager said “you’ll get a raise within the first year” so that was the plan I work their for a year get a raise to 9 an hour and we’d be good. My husband was making 13 at this time so we were struggling for rent and such which is why I had to take this job as there was no other open. Well my job was an accountant/bookkeeper/cashier kinda thing. Well I did a month of training and the girl I was replacing left. Well the person that was supposed to take the other three days ended up having a heart attack so I went from working three days a week to 6 days a week and everything that could have happened happened in that first month. Then the next week my managers husband died so I ended up having to take care of everything even though I was the newest employee. Well after like a month or so of doing everything myself I was already exhausted and my manager never actually grieved for her husband so she took that out on me. We had a huge sale in November and them in December and I had to do my job a managers job and a sales rep job all at the same time because of how behind we were well I was getting way to much over time because I had to work every single day and I was exhausted and began fucking up because I was getting depressed and shit and this went on for 8 mo before they even started looking for someone else. Well in like February/March they hired the first person. They didn’t last a month. They left I believe mid March? The second one started in April and left in like august and then the third one started a few weeks before I left. Well since I worked full time for almost a year they originally gave me 40+ hours of vacation and pto well then then cut it half because I was considered a “part time employee” wel money went missing from the safe (almost 300 dollars) and they tried to make me and the other girl pay. Their options for me were “you can either pay us or we can take it out of your check” I told them absolutely not and that I quit (at this point I had already gave them a months notice cause I wanted to let them have time to find someone) and that the next day would be my last day since the newest person was there after that. Well the next day roles around and the manager is hella passive aggressive she even HIT me with paper. Like smacked me with a piece of paper so I grabbed my stuff clocked out and walked out and haven’t been back. I felt horrible but they fucked me over way to many times.
