This was a few years back when I used to work for this company that ran cables for various prisons. The job required travel and staying in hotel/motels for a week at a time and drive home after work on Fridays. The pecking order was the boss, the manager, team lead, and the workers. I was a worker and learned to do a lot in a short period of time. I even improved the job by bringing safety techniques from my experience from the oil and gas' field.
Everything was great the first few months, living in good hotels and getting work done. We then got to a small town where they had a cheap motel and another hotel. The manager decided that we'd be better off in the cheap motel (I think he had a budget for the hotels, chose the cheaper ones, and pocketed the difference). On day one, my team lead and I saw suspicious characters in front of a room. Since he, team lead, brought his wife and kids he wasn't feeling safe and asked the manager to get another place. He declined and we had to stay at the cheap motel. When I got there, I check in and go to my room, and notice daylight around the door jamb. It was closed and locked, but didn't seal the door. This lead to potential where mosquitoes and other bugs could come in. I went back to the lobby and got another room, but it had the same issue. I just accepted it and stayed there for two days because we had the 4th of July off and went home. I wrote a bad review, on google, about the motel. Hours later, I got a call from the team lead that I should remove the review because the Manager got a call from the owners of the motel. They had his number because he would negotiate the price for the crew. I gave in and took the review off.
Come back, on a Thursday night, and still had that cheap motel. New room, same door problem. I go to bed and put my face on the pillow and it smelled like someone's head sweat. They clearly didn't change them and just turned them over. I was disgusted and decided to sleep on the couch with my legs extended on the ottoman. When I got there, I noticed a dried smear on the ottoman and it looked like someone nutted on it and just wiped it. I got up, went to my car and went to sleep. I'd had enough of the motel to change rooms as I was sure they weren't any better. Did the work on Friday, went home, and relaxed for the weekend. On Sunday, I texted the group chat. asking the team lead if we can get another hotel. I am not comfortable with the one we stayed at, and didn't want to say there. He said that he'd call the manager and ask, but was told no. So I said that I'll take the week off without pay just because I didn't want to stay there. He replied back and said the job was for two weeks so I replied that I'd be taking two weeks off. He decided that he could give me an ultimatum saying “Why don't you just quit then?” The second I saw that, I said fine, I quit, come get your shitty tools out of my car (he lived a few miles from me). Even though they were short-handed, he decided it would make me give in to ask me to quit. Next thing I notice is the other workers, in the group chat, all started replying to why the fuck they didn't just get us another hotel cause they needed the bodies for the job. I got no call from the manager or the owner, but I heard the team lead got in trouble for telling me to quit.
I re-wrote the bad review, on google, and attached a picture of the cum stain on the ottoman.
Fuck that company and fuck them again for trying to bully me.
