My boss-ly boss who is financially stable and has a car and a house and a family hired me on the idea that I'd come in at 6. totally cool with me, I love mornings. He sprunh me with a “see you at 5” before my first week, because we were understaffed and there's work that has to get done early. Because of buses that means I have to take a bus at 4 and walk uphill like ten blocks. We recently got another employee working in my position so he and I can alternate weeks of coming in at 5 and 6.
The thing is, if I could come in at 5:30 instead of 5, I could shave 45 minutes off of my commute time, not walk ten blocks, and (as of late) not have to walk alone past the rotating selection of racist graffiti. I feel less safe than I used to with the rise of violent bigotry near me. I keep bringing 5:30 start up to my boss and he keeps dismissing me. Coming in at 5:30 means I can also spend half an hour eating breakfast and drinking coffee instead of being practically asleep at my station. How do I make him listen to me?
