As tax season is coming up, it's obviously become a point of conversation in my friend group. Quite a few of them are Libertarians and I've heard them say “taxation is theft,” just one too many times. But when I bring up the idea that profits are actually way more like theft than taxes, I'm the idiot.
Do they really not see it? On one hand you have a payment to the government to provide goods and services (note: I am not saying they are always spent wisely, we are talking idealistically here) and on the other you have surplus profit that YOU GENERATED being given to a billionaire that doesn't know you exist so they can buy another super yacht. Which seems more like theft to you?
I don't know if any of you have had similar experiences but it is very frustrating being around people like that, especially when they refuse to even entertain your idea. Anyways, thanks for letting me rant. That is all, carry on.
