I’m a special education teacher, I’ve been in this field for several years. The last couple of years have taken a toll. But I love what I do and I always come back.
Last year I carried an illegal case number. This year isn’t any different. As a special education teacher I complete a lot of legal paperwork. I require space to be able to do what I do.
This year I came into my classroom and my desk was missing. I inquired and I was told I wouldn’t have a desk. They also said I was lucky I had one last year, the only reason why I had one last year was because a teacher brought their own desk.
It might seem insignificant to some but it has taken a toll on me and the school year just started . Every single teacher has a desk except me. Returning teachers, new teachers, even long term subs.
I’ve given so much of myself and my free time to this school. I fixed their program and I carried and continue to carry and illegal number of caseloads. I was denied a stipend for the extra work I did. Whenever I advocate for a workspace they gaslight me.
I hate it here.
