A few weeks ago I was doing a six week block of Casual Relief Teaching with a High School, who tentatively offered me a contract position of three days a week as a Tutor with the option of two days a week of casual work with them.
I spoke with the Principal again during the last week of the block and he said that the contract position would likely now be 2-3 days a week and would depend on administrative movements within the school. He told me to contact him again (via email) in relation to the position in a fortnight’s time.
I did so, in the hope for a more formal and fixed offer. The Principal informed me that the position had fallen through and he was no longer able to offer me the contract position.
Do I have any legal recourse in this matter? Or because it was a verbal offer with nothing in writing do I simply have to accept it and move on? I’m very angry with the Principal and Head Teacher of this School for leading me on and offering me a position they clearly had no intention of honouring. The Head Teacher even recommended me to the Principal for this position.
